智慧型脈診健康評估系統

一、計畫簡介:

The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been gaining global awareness over the past decades. In United States and China, both governments are increasing their research grant on TCM in an exponential order. The international business sectors, consolidating with academic alliances across the countries, are investing their research and development in TCM exclusively under the guidance of evidence-based medicine (EBM).

Contradictory to the scientifically proven evidences, the TCM theory is built upon a philosophically driven circulation system, i.e. chi and blood (氣血), which combines various forms and extents of energy, substance and information along the putative meridian pathways. Based on the fundamental logics, the healthy state is defined as a full and balanced chi-blood stream while the illness occurs as a result of its turbulence and mal-distribution. For thousands of years, TCM practitioners have relied on palpating the radial artery pulse, also known as pulse diagnosis (脈診), to measure and monitor the patient’s chi-blood status. However, their diagnosis have confronted extensive discrepancy across various practitioners. The major defect of subjective pulse diagnosis is the lack of consistent analytical standard underlying the fingertip touch sensation. As a result, the value of pulse diagnosis is critically challenged and disputed by mainstream western medicine for inaccurate measurement and contradictory treatment.
